I went through every 100% kapok pillow I could find and put the facts side by side: what's in it, what it costs, whether it adjusts and what happens if you don't like it. Full disclosure, I make one of them.
I checked each brand's own product and return pages on October 2, 2026, and I only listed what those pages say. Where a page didn't say, I wrote "not stated" instead of guessing. Prices and terms change, so confirm on the brand's site before you buy.
What counts as 100% kapok
Kapok is a silky plant fiber from the seed pods of the ceiba tree (what kapok is). "100% kapok" describes the fill, not the whole pillow. The shell, thread and zipper are separate, so a pure kapok pillow can still differ a lot in fabric, size and how you adjust it. Some well known "kapok pillows" are mostly latex or foam with a little kapok mixed in. Those are covered further down, separately.

What actually separates them
- Returns on a pillow you've slept on. This is the biggest difference, and the one most people miss. Of the six, only MAREA refunds a pillow you've actually used. Soaring Heart gives store credit on used items. Sachi and Bean Products take returns only if unused or unopened, and you pay the shipping. Savvy Rest and Rawganique don't take them back at all. Kapok feels different from foam or down, so a real trial on your own bed matters.
- How you set the height. The point of loose kapok is that you can open it up and dial in the height. Rawganique charges extra for the zipper, and Bean Products doesn't say whether it has one. Ours has a hidden zipper standard, and ships full so you have room to adjust.
- Size. Savvy Rest is 16 inches wide; most others, ours included, are a full 20.
- Certification you can check. Ask which part a certification covers and for the license number. Savvy Rest calls its kapok organic, and its page doesn't name a certifier. We call ours wild harvested because that's what it is, and our shell is GOTS certified organic cotton sateen. I explain how to check any certificate in What Does GOTS Certified Actually Mean?
Kapok blends are a different product
Two popular pillows show up in "kapok" searches but are mostly something else:
- Avocado Green Pillow: listed as 70% latex and 30% kapok. Standard $139, Queen $159, King $179.
- Layla Kapok Pillow: shredded memory foam mixed with kapok. Queen $109 and King $129, according to TechRadar.
A blend behaves like a latex or foam pillow with a little kapok on top. If it's the feel of kapok you're after, check the label for "100% kapok." More in Pure Kapok vs Kapok Blend Pillows.
Where MAREA fits
Ours is 100% wild harvested kapok with nothing blended in, a 300 thread count GOTS certified organic cotton sateen shell, a hidden zipper, and a 100 day sleep trial on a used pillow with a free US return label. Our 3 lb refill is $45, and there's a 20 × 54 body pillow in the same fill. Everything is handcrafted in the USA and designed in Hawaii. If you want to see how the body pillows stack up, I did the same exercise in Kapok Body Pillows Compared. Browse all MAREA kapok pillows, or work through our kapok pillow buying checklist.
Questions people ask
Is every "kapok pillow" 100% kapok?
No. Some are blends where kapok is the smaller part, like the latex and foam pillows above. Check the fill line on the product page for a percentage or the words "100% kapok."
Can kapok be certified organic?
Organic certification exists for wild harvested crops in general. Of the brands here, only Savvy Rest calls its kapok organic, and its product page doesn't say who certified it. Whatever a brand claims, ask for the certificate and license number.
Why do kapok pillow prices vary so much?
The fabric, how much fill goes in, whether there's a zipper and how generous the return policy is all show up in the price. A pillow you can return after sleeping on it costs the brand more to sell than one you can't.
Which kapok pillow is best?
The one you've actually slept on. Kapok is a different feel from what most people are used to, so look for pure kapok, a zipper to set your height, and a trial that lets you send it back after real nights on it.
