Every MAREA cover is cut from GOTS certified organic cotton sateen. GOTS is the Global Organic Textile Standard, the leading third party certification for organic fabrics, and it covers the fiber, the processing, and the chemicals allowed at every step. Sateen is a weave that gives the cotton a smooth, softly lustrous surface that feels cool against your skin.
Each cover is cut and sewn by hand in New Jersey, in the same workshop that makes every MAREA pillow. The full length zipper is hidden in the seam, so the cover closes clean with nothing to catch on your sheets or your skin.
Zip the cover off and machine wash cold on a gentle cycle. Tumble dry low, or line dry to extend the life of the fabric. Because the cotton carries no chemical finishes, there is nothing to break down in the wash. This is the washable layer that keeps the pillow inside clean for years.
Covers come in Standard 20 x 26, Queen 20 x 30, King 20 x 36, and Body Pillow 20 x 54 inches, each cut to the exact dimensions of its matching MAREA pillow. The Standard, Queen, and King sizes follow common US pillow dimensions, so they fit most pillows from other brands in those sizes as well.
Covers can be returned within 60 days of delivery, unopened and unused, for a full refund. The 60 night sleep trial applies to our pillows, since those are the products you need to sleep on to judge. Standard US shipping is free on orders over $80.

Correct, and the difference is deliberate. Cotton is a farmed crop, so it can be certified, and every MAREA cover carries GOTS certification from the field through the finished fabric. Kapok is not farmed at all. Ceiba trees grow wild in Indonesian rainforests and the fiber is gathered by hand from pods the trees drop on their own, so there is no farm to certify. We call it wild harvested because that is the accurate description: no pesticides, no irrigation, no land cleared.
Kapok fill should never be machine washed, so the washable layer has to be the cover. Every MAREA cover is removable and machine washable with a full zipper.
