Caring for Your MAREA Pillow

Wash the removable cover. Keep the filled pillow dry. That's the whole routine. The shell that holds the kapok stays on the pillow; the zip on cover comes off for the wash.

Adjust the pillow

  1. Fluff and redistribute the fill after unpacking.
  2. Try the pillow lying in your normal sleeping position. Remove or add small clumps through the hidden zipper until the height feels right.
  3. Work over a clean tray or open box, away from fans. Keep fibers clear of the zipper teeth.
  4. Save removed fill in a sealed bag for future adjustments.

Wash the removable outer cover

The cotton sateen cover is sold separately. Remove it from the filled pillow, zip it closed and follow its care label: cold gentle machine wash; tumble dry low or line dry. Avoid bleach and high heat.

Spot clean the filled shell

Use a lightly damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap on the spot. Blot gently so moisture stays on the surface, and let the area dry completely before use. The filled pillow doesn't go in the washer, dryer or to the dry cleaner.

Freshening and routine care

Fluff daily, and let the pillow breathe now and then with the cover off in a dry, airy room. Keep bedding away from flames, sparks and smoking materials.

Allergies and washable bedding

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America recommends weekly bedding washing for dust mite concerns. Wash your pillowcase weekly and the MAREA cover cold on its regular schedule. If you use a dedicated allergen encasement, it goes under your pillowcase; follow its own care label. Read our kapok and allergy guide.

When the pillow needs more loft

Redistribute the existing fill first. If you still want more height, add kapok refill in small handfuls. Each bag holds 3 lb, so you'll have plenty saved for topping it off later.

Care for the coming soon bedding line

The organic cotton sateen sheet set has different care from the filled pillow: machine wash cold on a gentle cycle and tumble dry low or line dry, following its care label. Check fit before washing because used or washed bedding is not eligible for a standard return.

The organic cotton duvet insert is spot clean only. Keep the insert out of the washer and dry cleaner. Use a duvet cover with compatible dimensions and corner ties, sold separately, and wash that cover according to its own label. Let any spot cleaned area dry fully before use.
