A duvet filled with layers of organic cotton instead of polyester or down, inside a GOTS certified organic cotton sateen shell. Plant based and breathable, with real weight to it. Cover sold separately.
Inside This Duvet
This is the insert: the filled duvet that lives inside a cover. Choose a duvet cover that matches the finished dimensions below and has interior corner ties, and attach those ties to the four loops. For how the duvet, cover and sheets come together, see how to make your bed feel like a hotel bed.
The fill is organic cotton batting laid in even layers, not loose clusters. Layered cotton has a substantial drape, more like a blanket than a cloud. Hand tufting holds the batting in place.
The shell is the same 300 thread count organic cotton sateen as our sheets, GOTS certified by Oregon Tilth under license GOTS-10229, woven tight so the fill stays where it belongs and smooth where it meets your skin. No polyester, no down, no feathers, no foam.
Instead of sewing the fill into channels or boxes, each duvet is tufted by hand. A cotton tie is worked through all the layers at points across the surface and knotted, which holds the batting in place. The small dimples you see on the surface are those ties, and they keep the layered fill evenly spread.
| Size | Finished size | Weight | Fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Twin | 72 x 90 in | about 7.5 lb | Twin and Twin XL |
| Queen | 92 x 96 in | about 12 lb | Full and Queen |
| King | 96 x 110 in | about 13.5 lb | King and California King |
Each duvet is made by hand, so dimensions and weights are approximate.
This duvet has real weight to it. A Queen is about 12 lb spread across the whole bed, which gives it a calm, tucked in feel that a puffy comforter doesn't have. Cotton is a breathable fiber, so you're sleeping under plant fiber instead of polyester.
This duvet is spot clean only, so a removable cover does the routine washing and protects the insert. Layered cotton batting isn't made to be soaked and spun, so keep it out of the washing machine and the dry cleaner. Wash the cover according to its own care label. How often to wash each layer is covered in the Sleep Journal.
- For a mark, mix three parts water to one part white vinegar in a spray bottle, spray the spot and let it dry in direct sun. Repeat until it fades
- A little mild detergent in water works for most food marks. Hydrogen peroxide for blood, rubbing alcohol for makeup. Dab, never rub, and use as little liquid as you can
- Dry the spot completely before the cover goes back on. Cotton should never sit damp
- Air the duvet in the sun for an afternoon every few months. Sunlight freshens cotton and wakes up the loft
- Store it loose in a breathable cotton bag, never compressed and never in plastic
The filling is organic cotton batting, with no polyester, down, feathers or foam blended into it. The shell is undyed GOTS certified organic cotton sateen, with cotton thread and hand tufting. Cotton is a breathable fiber; Cotton Incorporated describes humidity passing through the fabric rather than sitting against the skin, which is why we chose it over polyester for a duvet you sleep under all night.
Each duvet is layered, tufted and finished by hand in the USA, with a shell of imported GOTS certified organic cotton sateen. Designed in Hawaii.

The Construction
Cotton, layered by hand

The result is a substantial, plant based duvet insert with real weight to it. It lives inside a washable cover, and the insert itself is spot clean.
- Layered organic cotton fill
- Hand tufted, no channels
- Corner loops for a compatible cover

Duvet Questions
Yes. The insert is spot clean, so a washable duvet cover does the routine laundering. Our matching cover is sold separately; any cover that matches the insert's dimensions and has interior ties for the corner loops will work.
Check the listed measurements before buying: Twin is 72 x 90 inches, Queen is 92 x 96 inches and King is 96 x 110 inches. Size names vary between brands. A compatible cover needs matching dimensions and interior ties for the corner loops.
About 7.5 lb for Twin, 12 lb for Queen and 13.5 lb for King. That weight spread across the bed gives it a calm, tucked in feel a puffy comforter doesn't have.
Cotton is a breathable fiber, and humidity moves through it instead of sitting against your skin. On the hottest nights, fold it back to the foot of the bed and sleep under the flat sheet; pull it up when the room cools down.
Hand tufting holds the layers in place so the batting stays evenly spread. Give the duvet a shake when you change the cover and air it now and then.
Spot clean only. Keep the insert out of the washer and dry cleaner, let any cleaned spot dry fully, and use a washable cover to keep the insert fresh.
No. The fill is organic cotton batting inside an organic cotton sateen shell, with no down, feathers or wool. Contact us if you need confirmation about a specific component.
Polyester filled duvets use synthetic fiber made from petroleum. Ours is plant fiber all the way through: organic cotton batting inside GOTS certified organic cotton sateen, with more weight and drape than a polyester comforter.
The cotton sateen shell fabric is GOTS certified by Oregon Tilth, license GOTS-10229. GOTS covers organic fiber content, the processing chemicals allowed and chain of custody, and you can look the number up in the GOTS certified suppliers database.
