Keep loose kapok dry and stored in its sealed bag, away from moisture. Never machine wash kapok fiber. If the fill inside a pillow needs freshening, spot clean the pillow and set it in the sun for an afternoon.

Work over the bed
Kapok is light enough to float, so open the bag where stray fibers land on your sheets, not the floor.

Open the zipper
Unzip the end of your pillow and fluff the fill that's already inside.

Add a handful at a time
Push each handful into the corners, close the zipper and lie on it before you add more.

Seal the rest
Keep what's left dry in its sealed bag for the next time you top it off.

Your pillow is where dust mites and allergens collect, a few inches from your face for eight hours a night. Kapok handles that the way the plant made it: a hollow fiber wrapped in a natural waxy coat that sheds moisture instead of soaking it up.
